I love natural hair memes so much because I can relate to them and take comfort in the fact that I’m not the only one in the struggle with all the “perfectly defined bouncy curly hair without a strand out of place” pictures always on social media that doesn’t happen in real life even to me as a natural hair blogger.
In real life, I have hairstyle fails, bad hair days, days when I don’t know what to do with my hair so I just put it in a bun which is the style I do 90% of the time. So this is for us realistic naturals, I hope you love them.
1) Bantu knot fails every time.
Somehow, my bantu knots results never turns out like the tutorials. They might turn out curly once unravelled but they never separate into defined and bouncy ‘curly spirals’.
2) Twist outs that aren’t dry when you unravel them.
Sometimes it’s amazing how long it takes for your twists to completely dry. You might think it’s dry until you unravel it and find the roots still damp. Other times, you know it’s still damp but you just gotta hope for the best results when you take them down.
If you’d like to know how to perfect your twist out game see how to get defined twist outs every time.
3) Having a wide range of hairstyle options but only wearing your hair in 2 styles.
I have folders of natural hairstyles on my phone and on Pinterest but somehow I always end up doing a bun most of the time and when I actually feel like wearing my hair down, I’ll always do a braid out.
4) Broken combs, missing booby pins and running out of elastic bands.
I can’t count the number of bobby pins and hair bands I’ve lost since I started my natural hair journey. I seem to be buying new ones in bulk every other week.
5) Your hair looks amazing on days when have no where to go.
The most annoying struggle of them all, your hair looking flawless on the days when you’re in your sweat pants chilling at home. And of course you won’t be able to recreate that look when you actually have somewhere important to go to.
I hope you can relate to some of these natural hairstyle struggles and do tell us some of the natural hair struggles you’ve been through.
